Trojan horse that might kill Zim's banks!
So the banking sector in Zim is at it again! Being dumb as usual,
Letting a trojan horse enter through their main gate. First it was CBZ
then the others followed & now they are all on the same train track. I
wonder where the heck are these bank's marketing departments while all
this is happening. Why in the world did these banks intergrate EcoCash
into their system??
I saw the bomb coming, that is Econet acquiring a bank that was only
made to serve them with no real drive to look for new customers, they
should have seen that too! That's what marketing departments do.
So now the bomb is in their court! They now have a competitor in the
market who is highly liquid & has the capacity to grow into a big bank
and all these other banks will help them grow while they dwindle.
Its sad they didn't even think of coming up with a competing product,
now they might just EcoCash themselves to death!

Black or White Business
In most cases the black people that fill up that business are its repeat customers, the ones who always come back to buy almost everyday. Yet the white man who is passing through is treated like a king at the expense of the consumers who pay the rent every month.
Add to the fact that the white man makes a purchase which a lot of the black consumers exceed in value and you wonder what really is the basis for such discrimination.
The white race is less than 5% of Zimbabwe's population though they are also among the wealthiest as a result of mostly colonial period inheritances I doubt if it is worth it to openly show discrimination to the other 95%. Whatever happened to customer is king? Not the white is king i see in local businesses.
It seems blacks also inherited an inferiority complex from the colonial period and still think white people superior. Maybe every business owner including the security guards have to go through a decolonizing of the mind course before they open shop. Every shop I was discriminated against in by my own race I have made myself heard and never gone back, with the exception of monopolies (you just can't run away from them).
In all the business books i have gone through i have not seen any mention of black or white customers but just customer as a collective term which knows no colour, gender, height or race. Business does not discriminate it accommodates everyone to maximize on potential growth.

EcoCash vs Cellcard vs TN Cash Card
Eco-Cash
Eco-Cash takes 5% of every transaction that is made through it, No registration costs or anything just 5%, their magic number split 3% and 2% between the sender and receiver.
5% of our $100 is $5 for every transaction. Over a period of a year ($5 x 12) the total cost of using Eco-Cash will be $60 per annum.
Kingdom CellCard
The Cellcard costs are as follows; a monthly service charge of $1.30 and I was told withdrawals cost from 0.10c to $1. However upon further enquiring what kind of scale they use to charge the the withdrawal within the given range I was told its in the 'system' and so the lady at the enquiries desk didn't know! So much for consumer rights. That leaves us with a dilemma of wether to charge 0.10c or 0.50c or a $1. For the benefit of the consumers I decided to use a dollar, if its cheaper, well Kingdom has to work on their 'system' first so that we know!
A $1.30 monthly service charge for a year would be (1.3 x 12) $15.60. The dollar for our monthly withdrawal would add up to $12. Adding $15.60 and $12 will lead to a total cost of $27.60 per annum.
TN Cash Card
The TN Cash card costs $8 to register for and after that... Well that's it according to them. No usage costs or anything just eight bucks to get one and you can use your plastic money just like cash, with no 'hidden costs'. I think the challenge the TN cash card will have is gaining their consumer's confidence in using a card over notes and coins and making sure their P.O.S are ubiquitous, ndofanira kurishandisa nyangwe pakutenga matomatoes.
The last word
Obviously the TN cash card ($8)is the cheapest (will have to get one & test their service) followed by Kingdom's Cellcard ($27.60) and Eco-Cash ($60). However TN's product is supposed to replace cash and it will be hard for people to adopt to a cashless change.
So that leaves Kingdom's Cellcard as the best option, even though I didn't like their lack of transparency. If you really want to minimize your costs make sure you withdraw all your money at once rather than go to the bank 3 or 4 times a month and get charged for it every time. What I am yet to see is the CellCard's claim of no need to go to the bank as all my friends with the card always end up there.
EcoCash might be more expensive than having a normal savings account if you live near a bank. If you don't you might want to consider that envelope and the bus driver first!

Does money exist?
It will be hard to convince people that money in its truest sense doesn't exist. The piece of papers we use as money is called fiat money; which means it has no intrinsic value at all but it has value because government has said that its legal tender. That right there is civilization! A hundred dollar bill is far much less than the value printed on it but we buy that cause government said its worth a hundred. So money actually has a psychological aspect, it is all about who says my money is worth this much. Add to the fact that banks also create money from thin air.
The gold standard was dropped in 1971, which was a system under which your dollar value was actually backed by gold in a government reserve. After that and up until now money is now a collection of psychology and thoughts linked to trade and economic and political stability.
Divorcing this system has led to countries like the USA to grow beyond their means as they have printed more money than they have in gold, last year the USA had reserves worth just $361.8bn.
Governments now have the power to create fake wealth! All those government bailouts might have been met by just a wire transfer with no need to print the whole sum but part of it to satisfy the cash demands but really most of the money always stays inside computers.
So in essence money does not exist! It is merely a collection of perceptions, emotions, forecasts, results and the power of government bundled into a piece of paper. Which in turn means inflation is a mass psychological condition affecting a whole nation. Inflation might be defined as the increase in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period in time but it is simply a lack of confidence in a currency as was the case with Zimbabwe. Imported inflation also leads us to lack of confidence in the local currency when importing goods thus the exporter will value our currency less.
The true guardians of money are the accountants. Accountants keep money alive, without accountants money would be dead. Which is why almost every corporate scandal was achieved by means of manipulating company accounts. Enron, AIG, Bernard Maddof Investments, Satyam Computer Services and recently the Olympus Corporation, The British Bank of Credit & Commerce International and Royal Financial Holdings. All accountants know these scandals could have sailed through unnoticed & thereby creating money that didn't exist in the case of Enron and Satyam's share prices.
Banks also create money. If I deposit a $100 in a Bank they keep 10% of it to satisfy withdrawals and loan out $90. That $90 loan in the account will also lead to another $81 loan after keeping 10%. That adds up to $271 of which $171 was loaned into existence!
Celebrity endorsements, Movies and Marketing perpetuate the existence of money by always creating new and expensive needs which we wish to satisfy. Thus leading to a lifetime of chasing the millionaire's lifestyle. Without all this people might actually be satisfied with what they already have and stop working for money. To make sure this doesn't happen products are made to fit your pocket. For example you can get a watch for a dollar, one for $1,000 and another one for $2million. So you will never say you have enough and retire early or even donate most of what you own to charity!
Wether it exists or not money has proved to be a necessary evil for us to have advancements in technology and to keep production in motion or maybe we are just made to believe so. Whatever the case is money simply is the greatest motivator of man.
